Shotley Bridge Nursery School is excited to announce our plans for World Book Day on Thursday, 6th March 2025. This year, we are taking a fresh approach to ensure all children can participate in the joy of reading, regardless of their attendance days.

Our Inclusive Celebration

Throughout the week leading up to World Book Day, we will offer a variety of story-inspired opportunities with the intent of engaging every child. Our focus is on rekindling the true essence of this special day – celebrating the love of reading and the magic found within our favourite stories.

Embracing Creativity Over Costumes

At Shotley Bridge Nursery School, we move away from the commercial costume traditions. With the belief that over time World Book Day may have become overly centred on dressing up, therefore overshadowing the core purpose of celebrating the magic of literature. Instead, we enable our children to express their imagination and love of books through open-ended materials and authentic resources.

Stress-Free Participation for Families

We value our families and recognize the pressures they face with additional demands and expenses. Our goal is to make this celebration enjoyable and stress-free for everyone. By moving away from commercial costumes, we strive to create an environment where children can interpret characters from stories in their own unique ways, sparking creativity without added financial burden.

Sharing the Love of Reading

We invite children and their families to share their favourite books, stories, or rhymes with us. This personal touch allows for a more meaningful celebration of literature. Parents and carers are warmly welcomed into the nursery to read their child’s favourite story, fostering a sense of community and shared love for reading.

The Importance of Early Reading

At Shotley Bridge Nursery School, we believe that fostering a love for books from an early age is crucial for a child’s development. Reading enhances language skills, stimulates imagination, and provides a foundation for lifelong learning. Our World Book Day celebration aims to reinforce these benefits in a fun and engaging way.

Join Us in Celebrating

We are excited to embark on this literary adventure with you and your little ones. Let’s make World Book Day 2025 a truly memorable celebration of the power of stories!
