Outdoor Play

We believe that outside play is important for children’s development, not only in terms of their health and well being, but also in igniting a sense of curiosity at the world around them. Our free flow environment is well equipped and provides space to run around and play as well as providing opportunities to extend the learning that happens indoors. At Shotley Bridge Nursery School, children play outside in all weathers and the wide range of equipment and opportunities reflect their needs and interests and link closely to indoor activities. Children are supervised at all times and enjoy fresh air, sunshine and exercise. The outdoor area encourages a wide range of physical development and includes den-building equipment to ignite imagination and creativity. We also have vegetable planting areas, a sensory garden and newly added mud-kitchen for messy play!
